The Ngāi Tai Umupuia Te Waka Totara Trust, on behalf of Ngāi Tai and the Umupuia Marae, has requested a further 2-year temporary closure of Umupuia Beach to the harvest of cockles (tuangi). The current temporary closure is due to expire on 24 September 2016.
