Fisheries New Zealand seeks feedback on 5 applications for mātaitai reserves along the West Coast of the South Island from persons having a fishing interest in the stock or stocks in the proposed mātaitai reserve areas. 

• Te Rūnanga o Makaawhio have applied for mātaitai reserves at:
  • Paringa
  • Popotai Taumaka (Open Bay Islands)
  • Ōkahu (Jackson Bay)
  • Tauneke (Barn Islands).
• Te Rūnanga o Makaawhio and Te Rūnanga o Ngāti Waewae have jointly applied for a mātaitai reserve at Mikonui (Ross).

This is the second consultation for these applications. Fisheries New Zealand previously consulted with the local community on the applications.

The consultation closes on 5 PM on Monday the 30^th of May 2022.
