Fisheries New Zealand is seeking feedback on proposed bottom fishing restrictions in the Hauraki Gulf (Tīkapa Moana / Te Moananui-ā-Toi).

They are looking at options for establishing bottom fishing access zones, also known as trawl corridors.

The proposals seek to protect key seafloor habitats by excluding bottom trawling and Danish seining from the Hauraki Gulf, except within defined areas. 

The consultation closes at 5pm on 6 November 2023.
