Fisheries NZ Consultation - New Fisheries Regulations

The Fisheries Amendment Act 2022 came into force on the 1st of November 2022. The next step for MPI is to develop a new set of regulations for the commercial fishing industry. Feedback is sought on proposals surrounding:

  • Infringements for retention and discarding offences.
  • Alternative methods of disposal of landed fish.

Consultation on Infringements Regulations for Retention and Discarding Offences

Feedback is sought on options for a proposed infringement regime to address unlawfully retained, returned, or abandoned Quota Management System Species by commercial fishers.

Consultation on Alternative Methods of Disposal for Landed Fish

Feedback is sought on proposed new alternative methods, approval processes, and recordkeeping and reporting requirements for the on-land disposal of fish not sold or disposed of to Licensed Fish Receivers or through wharf sales.
