Fisheries NZ - Commercial Landing Exception Review: Red Cod

Fisheries New Zealand is reviewing the mandatory return of all commercially caught red cod smaller than the minimum legal size (MLS) to the sea, against the new exception rules and provisions that have been set in the Fisheries Act 1996.

Feedback is sought on a proposal to remove this exception, which would require commercial fishers to land all red cod that they catch.

The consultation closes at 5 PM on the 12th of July 2023.

For more information see the Fisheries New Zealand website.
