Fisheries New Zealand consultation - Proposed changes to import and export prohibitions for toothfish and southern bluefin tuna
Fisheries New Zealand is consulting on whether to move the existing import and export prohibitions for toothfish and southern bluefin tuna into regulations under the Fisheries Act 1996. They are currently in orders under the Customs and Excise Act 2018.
Moving the prohibitions to the regulations would:
- reduce administration costs (orders must be reviewed every 3 years)
- reflect the long-term nature of the reasons for the prohibitions
- not change the requirements for importers or exporters of toothfish or southern bluefin tuna.
Consultation closes on 19 December 2018.
