1 April 2008 Regulation Changes
The following regulation changes come into effect from 1 April 2008.
"Container type" reporting
The requirement to complete the "container type" for all catch returned to the sea under the Sixth Schedule of the Fisheries Act has been removed. The amendment reflects the fact that many Sixth Schedule species of fish are returned immediately to the water from which they were taken, and are never placed in a container.
Timing of submission of LTCER and TCER
Fishers who complete a Lining Trip Catch Effort Return (LTCER) or Trawl Catch Effort Return (TCER) are required to report landing data on a Catch Landing Return (CLR). Previous regulations did not specify when a CLR completed in conjunction with a LTCER or TCER needed to be provided to MFish.
Regulation 6(3)(b) of the Fisheries (Reporting) Regulations 2001 has been amended to specify that CLR's completed with a LTCER or TCER should be provided no later than 15 days after the last day of the calendar month in which the fishing trip ended.
Review of regulations relating to fishing interactions with sea turtles
As part of New Zealand's commitment to the Western and Central Pacific Fisheries Commission (WCPFC) the Ministry of Fisheries (MFish) has implemented a number of measures relating to the capture, release and reporting of sea turtles.
